Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Youth unemployment is a significant challenge in Nigeria, with millions of young people struggling to secure stable jobs in a competitive labor market. In this context, Kannywood, the Hausa-language film industry, has emerged as a powerful platform with the potential to influence the social and economic outcomes of youths, particularly in regions like Kazaure Local Government Area, Jigawa State. Kannywood films, which often explore themes such as ambition, success, and personal development, can offer valuable lessons and role models for young job seekers. The portrayal of entrepreneurship, perseverance, and skill development in Kannywood movies may inspire youths to consider alternative career paths and engage in self-employment opportunities, thereby addressing the issue of unemployment. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Kannywood movies in addressing youth unemployment in Kazaure, focusing on how these films influence the attitudes, aspirations, and career choices of young job seekers.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Youth unemployment in Nigeria remains a persistent and complex issue, especially in rural areas like Kazaure Local Government Area, where access to formal job opportunities is limited. Despite the efforts of the government and other stakeholders to address the problem, many youths in these areas remain unemployed or underemployed. While various solutions, such as vocational training and entrepreneurship programs, have been proposed, there is a gap in understanding the role of entertainment media, particularly Kannywood films, in addressing unemployment. Kannywood movies are widely watched in the region, and their themes could either promote positive career development or reinforce stereotypes about success and wealth. However, limited research has explored how Kannywood films specifically influence youth unemployment, aspirations, and career choices in Kazaure. This study aims to fill this gap by examining the impact of Kannywood films on the employment prospects and entrepreneurial mindsets of job seekers in the area.
1.3 Objectives of the Study

To examine the influence of Kannywood films on entrepreneurial attitudes among youths seeking employment.

Kannywood films foster entrepreneurial attitudes and self-employment opportunities among youths seeking work.
Kannywood films contribute to a reduction in youth unemployment by promoting job creation and entrepreneurial ventures.
1.6 Significance of the Study
This study holds significant importance for policymakers, filmmakers, and social activists by shedding light on the potential role of Kannywood films in addressing one of the most pressing issues faced by Nigerian youths. By evaluating the effectiveness of these films in influencing youth unemployment, the research will contribute valuable insights into how the media can serve as a tool for social change and economic empowerment. Additionally, the findings could inform the development of media-driven initiatives aimed at fostering job creation, entrepreneurship, and skills development among young people in rural areas.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The scope of this study is confined to Kazaure Local Government Area in Jigawa State, focusing specifically on the influence of Kannywood movies on youth unemployment. The study does not include other forms of media or regions outside Kazaure, which limits the generalizability of the findings. A limitation of this study is that it relies on self-reported data from youths, which may be subject to bias or inaccuracies in understanding the true impact of Kannywood films on their career decisions.
